Namibia’s First Lady and Chairperson of the OAFLA, Penehupifo Pohamba, said at the organization’s 11th meeting on July 16, 2012 that the OAFLA would be releasing 250,000 US dollars to support the implementation of the continental program. This, she noted, was in line with the global plan to bring to an end mother to child transmission of the virus by 2015. She said the new plan would be implemented in the five sub-regions of Africa, and she pleaded with donors to support OAFLA in its efforts to stop the global scourge of HIV/AIDS. The organization received a 50,000 US dollars grant from UNAIDS. OAFLA, which was established a decade ago, is working in more than 30 countries in the fight against the HIV/AIDS pandemic. According to the Chairperson, the organization has made a significant contribution to prevention and in reduction of the mortality of victims in the past decade. Gavi Allinace, Director of the International Federation of Family Planning who also spoke at the OAFLA Summit, said that Federation would fully support OAFLA’s new program, and she called on all stakeholders to step up their support to the organization. source:http://www.waltainfo.com |

"The growth over the last nine years was far beyond the growth rates recorded in aggregate terms for sub-Saharan Africa which was 5.2 per cent, less than half of Ethiopia's average real GDP (gross domestic product) growth rate during that period," |
